The Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC) is the premier academic organization addressing the emerging topics of importance to the nation’s university-based centers for entrepreneurship. With over 250 university members, it has become the vehicle by which the top, established entrepreneurship centers, as well as emerging centers, work together to share best practices, develop programs, and collaborate in advancing, strengthening, and celebrating the role of universities in teaching the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

The annual GCEC Conference is an opportunity to share information about your university’s entrepreneurship programs and to gain exposure for your successful initiatives.  It is also an opportunity to learn from the best practices at other universities and to network with entrepreneurship faculty, center directors, and entrepreneurship leaders from the top universities from around the world.   Last year’s conference hosted by the University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology was attended by over 400 university entrepreneurship leaders!

Keynote Speakers this year will include Gururaj “Desh” Deshpande.    Desh founded Cascade Communications with only $1,000 and later sold it for $3.7 billion.  He has a 30-year entrepreneurial career as the founder, founding investor or chairman of several companies including Sycamore Networks, Coral Networks, Tejas Networks, Cimaron, Webdialogs, Airvana, Sandstone Capital, A123 Systems and Curata.  Dr. Deshpande lives in Boston and his support has made possible MIT’s Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation.  The Deshpande Foundation has facilitated the setup of five other centers including the Pond-Deshpande Center at the University of New Brunswick.

This year’s conference will be hosted in beautiful Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia, Canada, in the early fall (October 12-14, 2017).  Halifax is a historic port city on the Atlantic Ocean and a major economic center in Atlantic Canada.   GCEC attendees can take advantage of the Celtic Colors International Festival featuring world class concerts and events, view the change of season colors, tour the Tall Ships and take other Historic Tours, and enjoy Lobster and other Culinary Adventures, wineries, whale watching, world class golfing, hiking, cycling, rafting, kayaking, national parks, and visit five world-renown UNESCO-designated landscapes.

Conference Hosts:  Dalhousie University, Saint Mary’s University, and University of New Brunswick.
