Denison teaches business-plan writing
It is a question a lot of people ask in the Denison University community, about 10 of whom learned some answers at an October campus workshop addressing that topic. Sponsored by the Burton D. Morgan Program in Liberal Arts and Entrepreneurship Education, the business plan workshop brought together faculty, students, staff, a faculty spouse, and even one young alumnus who returned to Denison specifically for the workshop. Leaders for the workshop were alumnus Rick Coplin ’85 and his colleague Stephen Anderson. Coplin and Anderson are both business development representatives at TechColumbus, a technology business incubator. Coplin and Anderson used the three-hour workshop to provide introductory and “how to” information, including their personal experiences with “what to look for in a business plan.” Two students helped make the workshop interactive by sharing their own entrepreneurial visions – one for a business based on a sports networking Web site, and the second for an independent film company. Participants then divided up into two groups and created business plans for both budding entrepreneurs. Stay tuned. Denison will be happy to report in future newsletters when the new ventures are launched!
