Ashland entrepreneurship camp spotlighted

Ashland University’s entrepreneurship camp for middle school students scored the attention of a Mansfield television news team this summer.

A reporter from WMFD-TV visited the camp on its last day and described how the 15 attendees had been given the opportunity to explore business creation and consulting opportunities.

Early in the week, the students visited with officials from a local assisted-living facility. They also talked to residents about things that could make their lives easier.

The students then proposed products and ideas to help those senior residents live more comfortably.

“The ultimate goal is to introduce students to thinking about being creative problem solvers,” Read Wakefield, director of the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Students at Ashland, said. He said the camp also encouraged students to think about starting their own businesses someday and to be problem solvers within a business.

This was the third year for Young Entrepreneurs @ Ashland. The camp is held at the Morgan Center.
