Walsh business is a big success

The Cavs Crave business teamStart it, and they will buy.

That could be the motto for one of Walsh University’s student business teams.

The WU Town Clothing Co. opened for business in August, just in time for more than 500 Walsh freshmen to get their class picture taken in shirts provided by WU Town Clothing.

So far, WU Town Clothing has sold more than 2,500 shirts on the Walsh campus.

Janet Howard, director of Walsh’s Entrepreneurship Experience Program, said Michael Blate, team mentor and president of Academy Uniforms, has been a tremendous help in teaching the students about logo design, screen printing, and the finished product.

Walsh is now in the second year of its entrepreneurial program. As part of the program, teams not only must solidify their business plan but also implement it on the Walsh campus.

A second team, Cavs Crave, implemented a smoothie business during homecoming week in September, and a third team implemented the Bragging Rights entertainment company in early October.

The program will continue with several presentations and guest speakers throughout the fall semester. In the spring, a panel of judges comprised of local entrepreneurs, mentors, and Walsh faculty and staff will judge all of the student-created businesses.

Howard said she is looking forward to the new businesses making an impact on campus.
