Ashland University
Completed in 2003, The Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies is a wing of the Dauch College of Business and Economics at Ashland.
The Center houses the entrepreneurship director, classrooms, an incubator space, and a student lounge, all directly connected to the business college. Ashland’s President Frederick Finks believes “the Center has taken the lead in introducing the topic of entrepreneurship to students outside the College of Business. Through the leadership of the Center, a second minor was developed for non-business majors.”
The Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Read Wakefield, added that “the portico.… and the signage on the west side of the building prominently announce that this is the location of The Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. At the opposite end of the entrance is David L. Deming’s bold and colorful ‘Spirit of Innovation’ sculpture celebrating creativity and innovation.
We bring our classes and the Young Entrepreneurs@Ashland day campers to review the artist’s comments on the sculpture and to reflect on how the sculpture inspires creativity and innovation. The Creativity Lab, with its state of the art technology and flexible furnishing, is an effective meeting, classroom, and work space.” The Center has become the locus of activity for Students in Free Enterprise, along with a host of other student organizations that have been infused with entrepreneurial thinking as a result of the program.
